In my own world

Spring 2019, four very different groups of kids – 60 in total from age 10 to some about to leave their teenage years behind.

All eager to tell me, show me, how they feel about the places and people they spend their time around.

Through their eyes I got a sense of how they see the world around them.

In My Own World began as a community project in response to a touring exhibition which highlighted women photographers work around the legacy of WWI. It evolved into something else entirely, through the insight, creativity and words which came forth from these young people. The settings for each image came directly from the kids themselves, they wanted to tell their stories visually. They also created powerful words with writer Dr Lucie Brownlee which sit alongside each image. Exhibited twice in different venues in Co Durham during 2019, the exhibition of these pieces attracted an audience of over 5,500 people.
